The Odyssey’ Hired Their Viking Ship. They Say It Came Back Damaged highlights a dispute involving Sweden’s Värmlands Viking Center and Universal over a replica Viking vessel used for a movie. The center’s chairman, Peter Olausson, said it agreed in late 2024 to lend the Glad av Gillberga, a nearly 60-foot ship built in 1998, for filming of “Charlie's Tale,” which later appeared onscreen as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Olausson said the ship returned with a cracked hull, damaged rigging, and needed repainting after the Mediterranean shoot. He claims Universal still owes $6,000 for repairs, citing a contract requiring the return in good condition and repair or replacement for injuries aside from reasonable wear and tear. Ticket sales for The Odyssey totaled about $264.1 million in its opening weekend. A Universal spokesman did not immediately comment.
