The World's Largest Electric-Powered Hot Glass Studio is Coming to Buffalo's Inner Harbor
Buffalo Electric Glass says it will build what it describes as the world’s largest electric-powered hot glass studio at Buffalo’s Inner Harbor. The not-for-profit organization plans to open the facility inside the historic DL&W Terminal in 2028, aiming to create a sustainable cultural anchor for the site. Company leadership says the studio will be built from the ground up using renewable energy and recycled materials, tying the effort to Buffalo’s electrical legacy and to the early lighting efforts associated with Tesla and Westinghouse. The program is expected to include a working hot shop, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and interactive classes for ages 4 to 104, alongside a performance stage with seating for 200 guests. The project is led by interim director Robert Cassetti, a retired senior director from the Corning Museum of Glass, and it is moving forward under an agreement with Savarino DL&W Development LLC.
