The World's Largest Superyacht Is About To Start Cruising -- What's Coming For REV Ocean?
The world’s largest superyacht, REV Ocean, is preparing to shift from luxury-scale attention to ocean science, with an inaugural 10-mission program planned across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific. The 639.4-foot yacht will launch in Brazil next year, and its full mission details are set to be unveiled at the UN Ocean Decade Conference in Rio de Janeiro in April 2027. Built with design pedigree from Espen Øino and H2 Yacht Design, REV Ocean also includes infrastructure more typical of government research ships, such as a submarine hangar, an onboard metal shop and 3D printing. REV Ocean Science Director Eva Ramirez-Llodra said the program targets a “knowledge gap” needed to support conservation goals like protecting 30% of the planet by 2030. Early missions include a Brazil Vitória-Trindade Chain expedition and a Caribbean Biodiversity Corridor research effort involving Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
