The sister of Rhiannon Whyte, the 27-year-old British mother murdered in Birmingham by Sudanese asylum seeker Deng Chol Majek, has criticized the Labour government’s handling of court records. Alex Whyte said she feels “sick, disgusted and completely let down” after the government went to court to prevent the public from seeing conviction data by nationality. Majek, who arrived on a small boat and claimed he was 19, was sentenced in January to life with a minimum of 29 years. The families have asked Justice Secretary Alex Norris to release England and Wales data from 2018 to 2024, after the Information Commissioner ordered the MoJ to publish it.
