Turku leads the way - port redevelopment advances the green shipping corridor

Turku is advancing a major port redevelopment that underpins a green shipping corridor with Stockholm. The Port of Turku is investing more than €200 million in improvements, including the joint Fregatti terminal, to boost efficiency and sustainability for ferry traffic and freight. From 2028, the Fregatti terminal will handle up to 8,000 daily passengers on Viking Glory and Viking Grace services, while departures will continue to resemble a busy 1.5-kilometer queue for lorries. Viking Line emphasizes that every port-call minute saved reduces fuel use at sea, underscoring the environmental and operational importance of modernization. The project aligns with broader efforts to decarbonize Nordic shipping across the Turku–Stockholm corridor.
