Two boats engulfed in flames as fire rips through marina in New London
Two boats were destroyed after a fire ripped through a marina in New London in the early hours of Friday morning, while additional vessels suffered exposure damage. Firefighters were dispatched to Burr’s Marina at 244 Pequot Avenue around 5:01 a.m., according to the New London Fire Department. Upon arrival, officials said two boats moored about 300 feet down the marina’s main pier were fully engulfed in flames, and two other vessels were damaged by radiant heat. Crews deployed multiple hose lines and knocked down most of the blaze quickly, though one burning boat’s stern lines failed, allowing it to drift away while staying secured by its bow lines. Groton Long Point Fire Department and Goshen Fire Department fire boats provided support. Fire officials reported no injuries, extensive damage to two of four vessels, and an ongoing investigation by the New London Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team with Connecticut DEEP investigators.
