Uganda has set aside nearly $2.4 billion for transport infrastructure in its 2026/27 budget, aiming to reduce logistics costs and strengthen regional trade. Finance Minister Henry Musasizi, as quoted by local media, said the allocation totals 8.79 trillion Ugandan shillings for the fiscal year and will support rail, road, aviation, port, and ferry projects. The government expects the economy to grow 10.2% and views transport investment as a key driver of economic growth and connectivity. Rail remains a priority, including work on the Malaba-Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the rehabilitation of the Tororo-Gulu metre-gauge railway, reported as 66% complete. For roads, Uganda plans to build or upgrade 600 kilometers of urban roads over five years. In aviation, the budget period is expected to mark the start of operations at Kabalega International Airport after construction is completed. The plan also includes Uganda Airlines acquiring eight more aircraft.
