WAKE WRATH: 3 thrown from boats as waves wreak havoc on Lake Lanier

Waves wreaked havoc on Lake Lanier on Friday, leading to three people being thrown from boats and one passenger being hospitalized. In Hall County, a woman riding on a 20-foot center console boat fell and injured her left leg after the vessel struck a large wake near Mountain View Park. She was taken to Gainesville Medical Center. Hours later in Dawson County, a large wake rolled over the front of a pontoon boat near the Athens Boat Club around 10 p.m. after a fireworks show ended. The wave badly damaged the boat and threw two people into the water, but neither was hurt. Georgia Department of Natural Resources game wardens recovered both. Authorities reported alcohol played no role, and no charges or citations were issued. Georgia DNR handled both calls.
