Warden service finds body of teen who fell in Androscoggin River
The Maine Warden Service Dive Team recovered the body of an 18-year-old who drowned after falling into the Androscoggin River in Lewiston. Authorities said Siloe C. Irumva was fishing with friends near the Gulf Island Dam along Switzerland Road at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday when he allegedly slipped on a rock while trying to untangle a lure from a tree branch and fell into the water. Game Warden Jason Luce confirmed at 4:35 p.m. Saturday that divers had recovered his body downstream. The river’s current swept him under the surface, the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said. Friends called 911, and Maine game wardens, Lewiston police, and the Lewiston Fire Department searched overnight with boats, shore personnel, and drones. Brookfield adjusted water flow to allow divers to search for a few hours, while fluctuating conditions between two dams hindered efforts.
