Quinten Kight, 41, was sentenced in North Carolina to between 12 and just over 15 years in prison for a 2025 boat crash that killed 10-year-old Brooklyn Mae Carroll and severed a woman’s leg. Kight pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder, death by impaired boating, driving while intoxicated, and serious injury by impaired boating, according to court records. The Aug. 2, 2025 crash occurred on the Shearon Harris Reservoir near Raleigh. Prosecutors said he prioritized hiding alcohol onboard instead of helping the victims. Witnesses and investigators reported signs of intoxication, and officials later found his blood alcohol content at 0.17—more than twice the legal limit, based on lawsuit claims. The case involves Jennifer Stehle, 41, whose leg was severed.
