Wilful Inverness boat fire prompts police investigation

Police in Inverness have launched an investigation after a boat was set alight on the Caledonian Canal. The incident was reported on Thursday evening, with the vessel floating south of Muirton Basin near Canal Road. Fire crews were dispatched at 7:30pm, including three fire appliances and a height appliance. Police also attended, and the fire is being treated as a wilful act. Inverness officers are now working to identify those responsible. In a statement, a Police Scotland spokesperson said officers are treating a boat fire in the Canal Road area around 7:45pm on Thursday, 5 November 2026, as wilful, with enquiries ongoing. Firefighters contained the blaze and crews left after the 8:04pm stop message.
