Woman accused of murdering man who was reported missing from Lincolnton

A Lincolnton homicide investigation intensified when police charged Kayla Rose Bessette with first-degree murder and common-law robbery in connection with the death of 70-year-old Tony Maddox. Bessette has been in Mecklenburg County custody on an unrelated aggravated assault charge since May. Maddox was reported missing May 27 after being last seen May 26. Bessette is also linked to a Charlotte attack on a 79-year-old man on May 30, following a victim from Food Lion, forcing entry and taking money. An affidavit notes she admitted strangling the man and smiled when asked if she intended to kill him.
