Woman rescued from capsized boat off Richmond dies in hospital: RCMP - Vancouver Island Free Daily
A woman rescued after a capsized charter fishing boat off Richmond in June has died in hospital, Richmond RCMP said in a July 8 update. Investigators reported that the vessel was found more than 150 metres below the surface, following earlier underwater search efforts. Ten people were aboard the “Big Coast” when it sank: eight charter guests, the vessel operator, and a person assisting the operator. Four were rescued; the remaining six were first reported missing and then presumed drowned hours later. The woman, 28, was a Chinese citizen living in Seattle and died from injuries sustained in the incident. The other three survivors are a 33-year-old woman from Toronto, a 33-year-old man from Redmond, Washington, and a 26-year-old man from Richmond. The six missing and presumed drowned include individuals from Toronto, Redmond, Seattle, West Vancouver and Richmond, including the 22-year-old Richmond operator. RCMP said next of kin have been identified, with families requesting names not be released, and that investigators are examining all circumstances, including vessel operations, near Roberts Bank.
