Woman rescued from water at Antioch Marina, second woman missing

Authorities in Antioch said one of two women who went swimming Wednesday behind a restaurant at Antioch Marina was still missing Thursday morning, while the other was rescued. The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. in the water at the rear of Smith’s Landing Seafood Grill, located at 1 Marina Plaza. Antioch police Lt. Franco Cesar said an officer responded after reports that both women were in distress and used a jet ski to reach one swimmer and pull her from the water. The officer was unable to locate the second woman, prompting assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit. No foul play is suspected.
