World Championship Cowes Prequel: Royal Yacht Squadron's King's Cup raises money for charities

The Royal Yacht Squadron’s King’s Cup will kick off the 44Cup World Championship Cowes on Wednesday 23 September, in a practice-day format that’s new for RC44 one-design racing. For the first time, the King’s Cup will be held in RC44 boats, using the event to raise money for Isle of Wight-based charities. The trophy’s origin dates to 1826, when King George IV presented it for early Cowes Week editions, and it was revived in 2019 as a charity regatta hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. VIPs will watch practice from the Royal Yacht Squadron platform before boarding RC44 yachts, ending with a champagne reception hosted by Dame Ellen MacArthur. Beneficiaries include the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and others.
