WoW Bites: Meet the Cork chef who has become a professional forager
WoW Bites: Meet the Cork chef who has become a professional forager highlights how a coastal-Alaska childhood turned into a wildlife-food career in Ireland. Epi Rogan grew up in Kodiak, Alaska, where berry picking and rugged wilderness shaped her lifelong habit of finding edible plants, even though she did not pursue hunting. After arriving in Ireland in 2005 for a three-month Europe trip, she returned to the U.S for a year, then came back and studied philosophy and classical civilisation at the University of Galway. Winning a competition for Dublin Cookery School’s three-month programme led to restaurant stages in Dublin, including one-Michelin-starred Bastible. By 2017 she was working in Cork kitchens and later launched Fiáin Wild Foods and pop-up events. Her work is influenced by collaborations she saw at Paradiso with Denis Cotter and Eneko Lopez.
