Wrongful death lawsuit filed in last year's fatal boat accident on Flagstaff Lake in Eustis

A wrongful death and negligence lawsuit was filed Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland over last year’s fatal pontoon boat accident on Flagstaff Lake in Eustis. The suit targets Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc., along with retailer Richardson’s Boat Yard in Standish. It alleges safety problems with the Sea-Doo pontoon boat involved, a 2024 Sea-Doo Switch that capsized while carrying six guests, including three women from New York. Farhana Nasir, 53, and Kiran Akbar, 23, died Aug. 30, 2025; Noor Nasir, 22, died Sept. 2. Maine Warden Service investigators said the women did not know how to swim.
