Xinhua Silk Road: Chinese solutions for meteorological early-warning help more countries tackle climate challenges

China’s meteorological authority is promoting “MAZU,” an AI-enabled early-warning system named after the sea goddess Mazu, to help countries prevent weather disasters. Released by the China Meteorological Administration at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), MAZU is presented as a universal multi-hazard solution with alerting and “zero-gap coverage,” supported by cloud-based trials in more than 40 countries. The article says it has already been applied in Pakistan, Ethiopia, the Solomon Islands, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Djibouti.
