Yankees World Series MVP Hideki Matsui to manage NPB's Yomiuri Giants: Reports
xCruzo Brief
Hideki Matsui, the 2009 World Series MVP with the New York Yankees and one of Japan’s most prolific sluggers, is reportedly set to become manager of Nippon Professional Baseball’s Yomiuri Giants. Multiple reports say Matsui will succeed Hideki Hashigami, who took over in May after the previous manager, Shinnosuke Abe, resigned following his arrest over accusations of assaulting his daughter. Japanese authorities did not indict Abe. NHK first reported the move. The 52-year-old Matsui was drafted by the Giants in the first round as a teenager, played 10 seasons in Japan, then joined the Yankees in 2003 on a three-year, $21 million deal, winning World Series MVP in 2009.
