Against All Oddities: Carry-On Coilovers from Japan?
A Hagerty contributor says their Japan shopping trip is driven by a long-term goal: building an AE82-generation Corolla restoration project, tied to a past high-school build and a later college crash. Before the newest trip, they revisited a suspension swap they previously did, which they describe as a complex “nightmare,” involving FX-16 GT-S strut assemblies, modifications to cut and remove components, Ground Control coilover sleeves, harder-to-find insert parts, camber plates from an Evo, and strut tower clearance work. Seeking a simpler approach, they looked at U.S. Chinese coilover options but found no easy fit and questioned quality. Instead, with a friend’s help, they located brand-new Largus coilovers sold only within Japan, noting it feels like a built-to-order product.
