Alonso just wants to get home in time for World Cup final
Fernando Alonso’s main focus for the Belgian Grand Prix weekend is ensuring he returns home in time to watch Spain play Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday. Speaking at Spa-Francorchamps, the Aston Martin driver said expectations for the race are low and that “the main focus on Sunday will be to get home and watch the match.” Alonso’s team has struggled as backmarkers, scoring only one point from nine rounds and often failing to finish races. The Belgian GP is also the last event before Aston Martin’s major chassis upgrade, with an improved engine still to arrive. The World Cup final is scheduled for 9 p.m. European time (1900 GMT), while the F1 race starts at 3 p.m. local time (1300 GMT), making his schedule “tricky” due to flying. Similar timing concerns were cited by Renault-owned Alpine driver Franco Colapinto and Williams’ Carlos Sainz.
