Amazon cargo plane crash: NTSB to release cockpit voice recorder readout

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) plans to release the cockpit voice recorder readout from an Amazon cargo flight that killed five people after the Boeing 767-300 overshot the runway and hit parked vehicles. The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, involving the North Carolina-based charter company 21 Air. Investigators recovered both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder. The recorder is expected to contain about two hours of quality audio and roughly 55 hours of information. NTSB said the audio captured crew actions: 15 seconds before recording ended, brakes were released at 120 knots, throttles increased, then brakes were reapplied with no indication that speed brakes or thrust reversers deployed. The pilots survived and were released from hospital; the NTSB plans interviews before publishing the readout.
