An ICE officer has been charged after striking a man with a car in Houston
xCruzo Brief
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, Mario Alberto Morales, was charged Friday with aggravated assault after prosecutors said he intentionally rammed his car into a Mexican construction worker in Houston. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said Morales, 48-year-old Miguel Parra Hernandez, broke his leg and was later taken into custody in federal care. Teare said surveillance and body-camera video contradict ICE’s claim that Parra Hernandez stepped in front of the vehicle. ICE called the indictment a “political stunt,” arguing local officials lack authority over federal officers. Morales was not in custody Friday; a warrant will issue. The case follows other ICE encounters under scrutiny.
