An ICE officer is charged with assault for striking a man with a car in Houston
A grand jury indicted an ICE officer, Mario Alberto Morales, on Friday charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon over an incident in Houston. Prosecutors said Morales, 33, was driving an unmarked SUV on Oct. 10 when he struck and ran over Miguel Parra Hernandez, 48, during a pursuit through a parking lot. Teare said Parra Hernandez broke his leg and remains in federal custody at a rehabilitation facility. District Attorney Sean Teare said body-camera and 911 audio contradict ICE’s claim that Parra Hernandez ran in front of the vehicle. Surveillance video showed a Jeep Cherokee speeding over a median toward the fleeing man as Morales drove. Morales’ attorney David Lindenmuth called the charge an attempt at “political gain.” Morales is not in custody; a warrant will issue.
