Balogun available for World Cup clash with Belgium despite red card suspension

Balogun is set to be available for the United States’ World Cup last-16 match against Belgium after FIFA moved to allow the suspension to be served under a one-year probation period. FIFA said Folarin Balogun will take part despite receiving a straight red card in the 2-0 win over Bosnia, where he scored his third goal of the tournament. The 25-year-old was sent off after a VAR review for planting his boot into the ankle of Tarik Muharemovic, leaving the U.S. to finish the game down a player. U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino said it was “never a red card,” and U.S. Soccer accepted FIFA’s decision. The game is scheduled for Seattle on Monday, with Belgium not immediately commenting.
