Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix: George Russell beats Lewis Hamilton to pole
George Russell fought back from recent disappointments to take pole for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, edging Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari by 0.064 seconds. The session also saw Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, finish third in the other Mercedes as the field remained tightly bunched. McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed fourth, with Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar completing a competitive top six. Charles Leclerc, Hamilton’s ‘teammate’ on the day’s report, crashed on his first lap in the final session and will start 10th, while Oscar Piastri was seventh, and Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg followed. The result sets the grid with Russell aiming to convert pole into Sunday success on a track known for its limited overtaking, shaping strategies across the teams.
