BMW Recalled 150,000 Cars In China Over Fire Risks -- And Had To Recall Its Own Recall, Too

BMW has filed recall notices in China covering roughly 151,000 vehicles for fire and brake-related risks—and acknowledged an earlier fix did not fully resolve one of the issues. The biggest campaign involves 93,071 imported cars with B48 four-cylinder and B58 six-cylinder engines, where manufacturing variance in the starter can create uneven wear and overheating in the engine bay. The remedy, scheduled for October 30, is a complete replacement with a heavier-duty starter, affecting models including 2 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, X4, X5, X6 and Z4 for production from February 2021 to April 2025. Other filings cover 57,787 cars linked to a starter relay vulnerable to moisture, plus a smaller set related to brake-booster software alerts that remains partly described in the filing.
