Bosch Confirms August 2027 Start for Europe's First Humanoid Robot Production Line

Bosch has confirmed that its Bühl plant in Germany will start series production of humanoid robots in August 2027, positioning it as the first European facility to industrialize humanoid technology at manufacturing scale. The robots will be built under a contract manufacturing agreement with Humanoid, the London-based startup also known as SKL Robotics Ltd. The deal hinges on a design choice: the robots use wheels rather than legs, allowing earlier compliance with EU safety rules. Bosch’s Bühl facility already employs about 2,700 people, with roughly 1,100 roles slated to disappear by 2030 during the EV transition. The company says it will handle building while Humanoid designs and owns the robots. Initial staffing is expected to begin in the “double digits,” scaling up later. A German metalworkers’ union agreement also limits compulsory redundancies through end-2027.
