Boston Dynamics' humanoid robots start training at Hyundai plant

Boston Dynamics says its humanoid Atlas robots have begun training at a Hyundai plant, a step toward deploying a robotic workforce on factory floors. The Waltham, Massachusetts company—now fully owned by Hyundai—plans to start at Hyundai’s “Metaplant” near Savannah, where Hyundai makes electric and hybrid vehicles including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9. Hyundai aims to begin with 25,000 robots at the Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC), eventually ramping up to 30,000 annually. Training will cover logistics and parts sequencing first, then add tasks like assembling parts and lifting heavy objects. Hyundai is also expanding with a $100 million plan for 1,250 new jobs by 2033.
