British hopes on a high for Silverstone weekend
Silverstone’s July 1 weekend is shaping up for British hopes in Formula One, with George Russell looking to deliver a home win after recent momentum. The Reuters report says Russell heads to Silverstone on a high after winning in Austria last weekend and trimming Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli’s championship lead to 40 points. He is also chasing a third consecutive year of a British driver winning at Silverstone, following Lewis Hamilton in 2024 and Lando Norris last July. Russell’s chance of a podium featuring Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren is described as realistic after the trio produced the first British one-two-three since 1968 in Barcelona. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella said podiums are plausible and that victory will be difficult. Verstappen holds the lap record from 2023, while the sprint format returns for the fourth time this season.
