Bugatti reveals its final W16 hypercar ahead of the V16 era, marking a transition for the W16 quad-turbo 8.0-liter engine that debuted on the 2005 Veyron. The brand says production of the new V16-powered Tourbillon has not started yet, and 2026 will be a key year because Bugatti is also leaving the Volkswagen Group. The last W16 road car from Molsheim will be the final Mistral, the 99 and last example, titled “The Last of Its Kind,” wearing a two-tone Pearl and Sparkle paint finish. Bugatti says it is a near one-off: the buyer can personalize details, including Magnolia and Grey Carbon Matt accents, with Ettore Bugatti’s signature on headrests and aluminum door sills. Each car received 248.5 miles (400 km) of testing and was driven up to 186 mph (300 km/h) at Colmar Airport in northeastern France. The final W16 was also positioned after the €5 million Mistral set an open-top production speed record in November 2024 at 282 mph (453.91 km/h) in Germany. Looking ahead, Bugatti opened La Manufacture capable of up to 200 cars per year, with Tourbillon limited to 250 units and other V16 models expected there. Even with W16 production halted, Bugatti allows ultra-rare commissions through Programme Solitaire, building two cars annually based on existing models.
