Chaos at Melbourne Marathon as stolen car allegedly hits woman, almost breaks onto course
Chaos erupted near Flinders St Station during the Melbourne Marathon after a stolen car allegedly collided with a woman and came close to entering the race course before speeding away. Witness accounts shared online say police drew their guns and told people to get down, while a boy was reportedly about 30 feet from driving into the crowd. Another witness described the vehicle as a Hyundai with the bumper bar hanging off, moving erratically through the central business district and approaching the marathon route. The report says the car then headed toward the intersection of Flinders St and Swanston St, performing a quick U-turn when the road was blocked, and later struck a person at the Elizabeth St entrance of the station. Ambulance Victoria said it responded to incident reports at about 10:45 a.m. on October 11 and transported one patient to Royal Melbourne Hospital.
