College football star dies at 25 after being struck by car while crossing road
A former college football player, Ivan Garza, died at age 25 after being struck by a car while crossing a road in Delano, California, during the early hours of Wednesday. According to the Delano Police Department, Garza was hit by an unnamed female driver, and she remained at the scene until first responders arrived. Despite medical efforts, Garza was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital. Garza starred as an offensive lineman for Sacramento State University after receiving a D1 scholarship, playing for the Hornets from 2019 to 2023 and appearing in 38 games, starting 36 at either left or right tackle. In 2021 he won the first of two Big Sky championships, and in 2023 earned all-Big Sky honors. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal crash, while a GoFundMe page for funeral costs surpassed $20,000 by Thursday night.
