Countdown on for Oxfordshire as British Grand Prix on its way
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone, just over the Oxfordshire border, is expected to set new attendance records next weekend. The “Glastonbury of motorsports” is scheduled to draw more than half a million fans on race day, Sunday, July 5, from across the UK and abroad. The event arrives as teenage Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads the standings with a 41-point advantage over second-placed Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton is set to experience his first home Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver after winning for the first time this season at Barcelona on June 14, and he has nine Silverstone Grand Prix victories overall. Attendance estimates suggest 570,000 for the weekend, surpassing last year’s 500,000 and potentially becoming the largest in Grand Prix history. Organizers warn of heavy traffic around the M40 and A43 from July 1 to 6, while rail and bus services from Oxford, Banbury, and Bicester are expected to be busy.
