Dead, 1 critically injured after pickup truck flies off bridge on Cicero Avenue in SW Side
A pickup truck crash on Chicago’s Southwest Side killed three people and left one woman critically injured after the vehicle went off the Cicero Avenue bridge early Sunday, police said. Chicago police reported the crash occurred at about 2:16 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue. Authorities said the response followed a call about someone pointing a gun from a vehicle. Officers found the car and attempted to stop it, but the driver did not comply; a brief pursuit was ended before it concluded. Illinois State Police later identified a vehicle matching the description in the 5500 block of South Cicero Avenue, where the driver stopped, then fled while troopers prepared their investigation. The pickup sped away and went off the bridge, striking a train box car. Two male occupants and one female occupant were pronounced dead at the scene. The fourth occupant, a woman, was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in critical condition.
