Detroit father charged with child abuse, reckless driving for fleeing motorcycle crash, leaving injured toddler

A 35-year-old Detroit man, Kabamba E. Kyalangalilwa, has been charged with multiple counts after police allege he crashed his motorcycle while intoxicated and left an injured 1-year-old daughter at the scene. The case centers on an incident reported to have occurred on June 28 near the 12800 block of Braile Street. Prosecutors say he brought the child to a nearby party around 11:30 a.m., then left her with unfamiliar people at a neighboring home so she could swim, before returning about five hours later on his motorcycle. Police allege the child was unsecured, and that after Kyalangalilwa attempted to drive away at high speed he lost control, fell from the bike, and crashed into the roadway. The toddler suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations to her head, face, and legs. Kyalangalilwa was arraigned last week on charges including second-degree child abuse, child abandonment, fourth-degree child abuse, operating while license suspended or denied, and reckless driving. His bond was reduced to $25,000 with a GPS tether, and he is due in court for a preliminary exam on Aug. 20 at 11 a.m.
