Driver jailed after fatal crash during video call - Internewscast Journal
A driver has been jailed for four years and three months after fatally striking a university student during a distracted driving incident captured on CCTV at a petrol station forecourt. Fiona Phippen, 45, drove a Nissan Qashqai through the forecourt at up to 51 mph on the A1 near Grantham, Lincolnshire, hitting Urwah Tanveer, 20, who stood beside her family's parked Mercedes. The collision occurred at 12:50 pm on 29 June 2024, just after Phippen finished a six minute WhatsApp video call. Investigators found no mechanical faults with the vehicle, and CCTV footage showed the moment of impact. Phippen later texted a friend about brakes and suggested possible brake failure or cruise control malfunction, but investigators found no evidence of such faults.
