Eagles rumors: Jalen Carter predicted to get record-setting contract extension
Jalen Carter is at the center of a potential NFL contract milestone, with predictions that he will sign a record-setting extension for the interior defensive tackle position. ESPN's Bill Barnwell identified Carter as the next in line for a top-of-market deal, and the Eagles appear to be among teams most likely to make that leap before the fall. Philadelphia's defense remains a cornerstone even after recent personnel moves, with Carter cited as a key asset capable of anchoring the unit for years. Barnwell estimated the extension could come in the low-to-mid 30s per season, and noted the Eagles' aggressive approach with young stars. Carter's 2023-24 season featured a rocky start, including an on-field ejection for spitting on Dak Prescott, followed by injuries that caused him to miss five games, but he still earned his second consecutive Pro Bowl. He was notably absent from a June 10 practice, with Coach Nick Sirianni declining to discuss the matter. The cap situation complicates a deal, as Philadelphia reportedly has just $12.53 million of cap space in 2027, necessitating further moves.
