Elon Musk Confirms Cybertruck Production Wind-Down at Texas Factory as Tesla Makes Room for Cybercab - Te
Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory Texas around mid-2027 to make room for higher Cybercab output. In a late Thursday post on X, Musk said production of the electric pickup would be tapered around the middle of next year, shifting capacity toward Cybercab. The announcement followed a separate post that included a screenshot of a 2018 image showing an astronaut dummy inside Musk’s Roadster during the Falcon Heavy test. Tesla’s Cybertruck was originally planned for production in 2021, but delays pushed deliveries to November 2023. Reported estimates cited sales of 7,000 to 8,000 units in Q3 2026, translating to an annualized 28,000 to 32,000—below Musk’s 250,000 target. Tesla also halted sales in Australia and New Zealand, and the Cybertruck faces competition from Ford’s Fathom EV pickup, GM’s Silverado EV, and the $25,000 Slate pickup.
