Norway’s auto market remains overwhelmingly electric, with plugin vehicles reaching 98.1% share in Q2 2026, up from 96.7% in Q2 2025. Full battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 97.4% and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) for 0.6%, leaving non-plugins at roughly 2% of new sales; half of those are HEVs. Total Q2 auto volume was 46,221 units, about 5% higher year over year. The Tesla Model Y led BEV sales with 5,686 units, followed by the new Toyota Urban Cruiser with 1,969, ahead of the Volkswagen ID.4 at 1,820. The Toyota C-HR also climbed quickly to 4th with 1,553. The Kia Niro placed 12th with 990 units, a near-total June delivery spike, after Norway tightened the VAT-exemption ceiling from 500,000 NOK to 300,000 NOK starting January 1, 2026. Kia used a one-time allocation of 1,350 Niro units priced at 299,990 NOK, with most deliveries already in June and the remainder planned for July.
