Florida plans to build air taxi pads using $200M intended for EV chargers

Florida plans to redirect nearly $200 million in federal EV-charging funding toward an electric air taxi network, according to the Miami Herald. The money was awarded under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program tied to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, but Florida said it never spent it because private companies built enough charging coverage. Florida’s Department of Transportation says it will use the funds to build 32 landing pads equipped with charging stations for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs). The plan aims to ease the state’s traffic, while rules under updated NEVI guidance allow “reallocation” if EV corridors are fully built out.
