Ford says it has joined efforts to build the U.S. Army’s newest tactical truck, a project the service expects to produce about 600 units of. The company would compete directly with General Motors for the program. The Army confirmed earlier this week that it awarded prototype contracts to GM, Ford, and Utah-based off-road maker BC Customs, with prototypes due in 2027. The truck is intended to function as a mobile charging platform for equipment such as drones and command-and-control systems, while moving troops over rough terrain. Ford plans three prototypes based on its F-Series Super Duty pickups.
