Ford losing US market share, auto forecaster says
xCruzo Brief
Ford is on track to lose U.S. market share as shoppers prioritize fuel economy amid high gas prices, Cox Automotive forecast Thursday said. Ford sales are expected to fall 8.8% through the first three quarters, which would drop its share nearly a full point to 12.5%. Cox also expects GM’s year-to-date U.S. sales to decline 6.2% through Sept. 30, with GM finishing the quarter at 16.7% share, down from 17.4% a year earlier. Cox said those would be the sharpest declines among 13 tracked automakers. Stellantis is projected to gain share. Cox estimates the combined share of the Detroit “Big Three” could hit an all-time low near 36%.
