Ford recalls certain F-150s, SUVs over risk for damage to park system
Ford has announced a recall affecting certain F-150 pickups and SUVs due to the risk of damage to the vehicles’ parking system. The recall targets specific 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, 2020-2021 Explorer and Lincoln Aviators, and 2021 F-150 pickups. Ford says the transmission park pawl may engage while the vehicle is in motion, which can damage the park system. If damaged, the transmission’s park feature may fail to hold the vehicle in Park, raising the risk of a crash or injury. The automaker is aware of 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries, including two described as “emotional injuries.” Dealers will update the powertrain control module software and inspect/replace damaged transmission components at no cost. Letters are expected Aug. 3, with the full remedy anticipated in April 2027.
