Ford recalls more than 250,000 Focus models because of engine stalling issue

Ford is recalling more than 250,000 Focus vehicles because a previous repair did not resolve a condition that can cause the engine to stall while driving. The recall covers 255,404 Focus cars from model years 2012-2018, and Ford says a malfunctioning canister purge valve may trigger unexpected stalls, increasing crash risk. Dealers will implement a free powertrain software update to correct the problem. Owner notification letters are set to go out July 6, and the recall numbers are Ford 26S40 and NHTSA 26V369, with the original 18V735. Vehicle identification numbers involved will be searchable on NHTSA.gov starting July 6.
