Ford recalls nearly 388,000 Explorers and Aviators over seats that could unlatch or tip

Ford is recalling nearly 388,000 Explorers and Aviators due to a potential issue with second-row seats that could unlatch, tip, or slide unexpectedly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the defect could increase injury risk by preventing the seat from properly restraining an occupant during a crash. The recall covers certain model-year vehicles: 2020 to 2027 Aviators and 2020 to 2026 Explorers. Ford reports that the affected vehicles likely all have the defect and that, as of June 16, its Critical Concern Review Group identified 14 reports of unintended second-row seat movement while the vehicle was in drive. Dealers will inspect and replace a defective component called a bezel free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to go out on July 27, 2026, and Ford’s recall number is 26S52.
