Gordon S Wood, Pulitzer-prize winning historian, dies after being struck by a car in Rhode Island

Gordon S. Wood, a Pulitzer prize‑winning historian, was killed Sunday after being struck by a car in a Rhode Island supermarket parking lot. Wood, 92, crossed the lot when the incident occurred, according to East Providence police. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Wood was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, where he later died. He taught as the Alva O. Way University Professor and professor of history emeritus at Brown University, and authored landmark works including The Radicalism of the American Revolution. His scholarship helped reshape America's origin story and earned the Bancroft Prize (1970) and the National Humanities Medal (2011).
