Honda Recalls 880,000 SUVs For Wheels That Could Fall Off

Honda is recalling 880,000 SUVs due to rear subframes that may not have adequate paint protection, risking corrosion and wheel detachment. The affected models span 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2016-2022 Pilot, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX, with corrosion at suspension mounting points potentially thinning components. Honda first learned of the issue in December 2021 and conducted US and Canadian monitoring through September 2025; the recall was approved in May 2026. Dealers will install a reinforcement kit and repair or replace subframe parts with improved coating. The company notes that de-icing salt can accelerate corrosion and reports no related warranty claims or injuries to date.
