Hotai Motor cuts Taiwan auto sales forecast to 430,000 units | Taiwan News | Jul. 1, 2026 15:12
Hotai Motor cut its Taiwan new-car market forecast to 430,000 units for 2026, reducing an earlier projection of 440,000, citing tariff uncertainty and ongoing supply shortages. The company told Taiwan News that CEO Su Chun-hsing said the adjustment reflects near-term pressure, while the firm expects improvement in the second half and kept its overall sales targets. Supply constraints continue to limit deliveries of hybrid and electric models, even as demand remains strong for Toyota’s RAV4 and other hybrid vehicles. Hotai said it is in talks with Toyota Japan to secure additional allocations and that luxury model demand is stable. It also noted that uncertainty over U.S.-made vehicle tariffs has led some consumers to delay purchases. The firm expects Q3 sales to rise year-on-year and says hybrid and electric vehicles now account for nearly half of sales under Toyota and Lexus brands.
