Hyundai Recalls 95,000 Genesis G80s Because Their Seats Might Catch Fire, And There's No Fix Yet - Jalopnik
Hyundai is recalling about 95,000 Genesis vehicles after reports that certain power seat motors may overheat and cause a fire, even when the car is parked. The recall covers 2015–2017 Genesis sedans and 2017–2020 Genesis G80 models equipped with non-memory power seats. Hyundai advises owners to park outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures because an “external impact with sufficient force” can damage a seat switch assembly, potentially jamming it so the motor runs continuously. Hyundai says 1% of roughly 94,622 recalled cars are believed affected. The company knows of two U.S. fire incidents, including one confirmed in a 2021 case involving a 2018 G80. Dealers are expected to notify owners on December 6, while VINs are searchable on NHTSA.
